Victoria Pass rebuild to receive $200 million in joint funding

The Australian and NSW governments have committed a combined $200 million to rebuild and widen Victoria Pass on the Great Western Highway. The federal government has allocated $100 million to match the $100 million previously committed by the NSW Government in its 2026–27 budget.

The project aims to restore the critical link between the Blue Mountains and the Central West, which has been closed since March due to serious cracking and movement. Seymour Whyte has been contracted to build a new road deck supported by piles anchored to the bedrock.

In addition to the reconstruction, the funding will allow for the addition of an extra eastbound climbing lane to improve long-term traffic flow and safety. The Great Western Highway is expected to reopen in the second quarter of 2027.
