Victoria Police Department dog celebrates sixth birthday

The Victoria Police Department is celebrating the sixth birthday of Daisy, the department’s Occupational Stress Intervention Dog. Daisy, who turned six on October 14, joined the force on October 24, 2023.

Daisy was trained through BC and Alberta Guide Dogs, with financial support provided by Wounded Warriors Canada. Her role involves recognizing signs of stress and trauma to provide a calming presence for both sworn and civilian staff. Unlike traditional service dogs paired with a single individual, Daisy works with trauma-exposed professionals as part of the larger organization to help reduce tension and build a healthier workplace.

Service dogs typically retire around age 10, meaning Daisy has several years of service remaining with the department.
