Victoria Police officers assist in roadside baby delivery

Two police officers, Sergeant Liam Cook and Constable Angus Hill, assisted in the unexpected birth of a baby on the side of the Princes Highway near Dennington, Victoria. The incident occurred around 2:20 am during a routine traffic stop of a speeding vehicle.

As officers approached the car, the driver, Jamie-Lee, was in active labor. Within approximately 90 seconds of the stop, baby Ashlee was born on the roadside. The officers provided immediate assistance and called for an ambulance, which arrived shortly after the delivery.

Both mother and child were taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital for medical checks and were reported to be doing well. The officers later reunited with the family at the Warrnambool police station. The officers decided not to issue a speeding fine to the driver following the emergency.
