Victoria Premier addresses fatal Western Highway crash and road repairs

The pothole believed to have caused a fatal motorcycle crash on Victoria’s Western Highway has been repaired. The accident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon at Trawalla, resulted in the death of 71-year-old Peter Mason.

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll addressed the incident amid growing criticism regarding the state of road infrastructure. While Carroll confirmed the specific defect has been fixed, he was unable to provide exact figures on how many potholes have been repaired statewide following a recent $352 million funding injection. The government previously set a target to repair 500,000 potholes by the end of January.

This incident follows a report from the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office stating that nearly half of the state’s government-managed roads are in poor or very poor condition.
