Victoria river trout season to open September 5

The river and stream trout season in Victoria, Australia, is scheduled to open on Saturday, 5 September 2026. Anglers can target various species, including brown, rainbow, brook, tiger, and cheetah trout, as well as chinook salmon, across locations such as the Goulburn, Mitta Mitta, and Rubicon Rivers.

To celebrate the opening, the Victorian Fisheries Authority will host annual fishing festivals in Ballarat at Lake Wendouree and in Goulburn at Eildon Lions Leisure Park from 9 am to 2 pm. These events will feature fishing clinics by Fishcare Victoria, hatchery tours, fish stocking, and opportunities to meet fisheries officers.

Additionally, the Victorian Fisheries Authority plans to stock trout along the Goulburn River between Molesworth and the Eildon pondage. Anglers are advised to consult specific regional regulations regarding bag and size limits to ensure compliance.
