Victoria Royals partner with Canadian Blind Hockey for community event

Canadian Blind Hockey and the Victoria Royals are partnering to host a Try Skating and Blind Hockey event at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on October 21. The session is designed for community members who are blind or partially sighted.

Volunteers from the Victoria Royals will participate alongside the Victoria Canucks Blind Hockey Team, an all-ages program supported by the Canucks for Kids Fund. The event includes equipment fitting, skating, and an arena tour.

Blind hockey utilizes specialized equipment, including a steel puck twice the standard size that is filled with ball bearings to produce sound. Additionally, the nets are one foot shorter to assist with tracking shots. In this version of the sport, goalies must be fully blind, and teams are required to complete a clean pass once they enter the offensive zone before a shot can be taken.
