Victoria Royals see strong start to WHL season and announce community event

The Victoria Royals have experienced a strong start to the 2026-27 WHL regular season, winning six of their first seven games and holding the second-best point percentage in the league. Following an off-season roster overhaul where fewer than half of the current 25 players returned from last season, key acquisitions such as Savin Virk and Cameron Schmidt have made immediate impacts. Virk currently ties for fourth in WHL scoring, while Schmidt has recorded eight points in five games.

The team’s defense has also seen significant changes, led by a new goaltending duo, Cole Prelusky and Vladimir Proskurin. Prelusky has maintained a 5-0-0 record with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.

Off the ice, the Royals are partnering with Canadian Blind Hockey to host a Try Skating and Blind Hockey event at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on October 21st. The event aims to provide people who are blind or partially sighted the opportunity to experience the sport with support from Royals volunteers and the Victoria Canucks Blind Hockey Team.
