Vancouver Island sports: VIJHL season schedule and Shamrocks title runs

The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) has released its schedule for the upcoming season. Exhibition play is set to begin on August 21, with the regular season officially opening on September 4. Each team will compete in a 48-game schedule, consisting of 24 home and 24 road games, running through February 28, 2027. Notable scheduling adjustments include the Nanaimo Buccaneers moving their regular home games to Friday nights and the Victoria Cougars utilizing various alternative venues due to ongoing renovations at Archie Browning Arena.

In lacrosse, the Victoria Shamrocks are pursuing multiple titles. The senior Shamrocks advanced to the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) championship series after defeating the Nanaimo Timbermen. Meanwhile, the Junior Shamrocks have secured a spot in the 2026 Minto Cup in Calgary, Alberta, following their British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League (BCJALL) championship victory over the Jr. Coquitlam Adanacs.
