Victoria state election approaches with major political shifts expected

The upcoming Victorian state election, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, is expected to significantly alter the state’s political landscape. After 12 years of Labor government, the party faces a challenge to secure a fourth consecutive term, a feat never previously achieved in Victoria.

Premier Ben Carroll has initiated the Labor campaign with a $1.5 billion package aimed at hospital emergency departments. However, the Coalition, led by Jess Wilson, is campaigning on a platform of smaller government and the restoration of public services. Polling suggests a competitive race, with bookmakers favoring the Coalition at $1.40 compared to Labor at $3.80.

On a two-party preferred basis, the Coalition leads 52 to 48. One Nation has emerged as a potential wildcard that could impact the results in regional areas. Currently, Labor holds a nine-seat majority with 54 seats, while the Liberals hold 19 and the Nationals hold nine.
