Victoria, Tamaulipas aqueduct rupture halts water supply

A 36‑inch pipe on the main Guadalupe Victoria aqueduct fractured on Monday afternoon near kilometer 27‑29 of the Victoria‑Soto La Marina road, forcing municipal water authority COMAPA to suspend service while emergency repairs are carried out. The break, which occurred during construction of the project's second line, caused a large water leak and left roughly half of Victoria’s population without tap water.

Governor Américo Villarreal visited the site on Tuesday to assess the response. Authorities have not yet located a young worker reported missing after the collapse. The Secretariat of Hydraulic Resources confirmed the rupture involved a PRFV (glass‑fiber‑reinforced plastic) pipe and indicated that the construction company responsible for the second line is under investigation for the incident. Technical crews continue to evaluate damage and aim to restore supply as quickly as possible.
