Victoria Villarruel defends national industry and SMEs

During the XII Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum in Madrid, Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel advocated for the protection of national industry and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). She emphasized the need for state regulatory intervention to safeguard jobs against the unchecked advancement of technology.

Villarruel warned that unregulated technological development could deepen structural fragilities in the labor markets of Argentina and Latin America. She specifically criticized the model of unregulated self-employment, arguing that workers in platform economies often operate under an “illusion of autonomy” while being subject to strict algorithmic surveillance that compromises their stability, income, and social security coverage.
