Victoria Villarruel honors Malvinas veterans amid sovereignty debates
Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel led a tribute to Malvinas War veterans at the Senate, marking the presentation of the book ‘Malvinas: epopeya nacional’. Despite the event’s focus on the South Atlantic conflict, Villarruel declined to comment on recent sovereignty announcements made by President Javier Milei.
The ceremony included the singing of the March of San Lorenzo and the March of the Malvinas, with the Senate’s Malvinas Gesta Directorate organizing the event. While Villarruel participated in a protocolary role by distributing books to veterans, she opted not to deliver a speech.
In a separate political development, National Deputy Julia Strada urged the Milei administration to move beyond rhetoric and implement existing laws to sanction foreign companies involved in hydrocarbon exploitation near the islands. Strada criticized the government's consistency, noting that recent actions appeared to contradict the very regulations the President now claims he intends to enforce.
