Victoria weather causes flooding and road disruption
Heavy rainfall and extreme weather across Victoria have caused significant disruption, including nearly two dozen drivers being stranded on the Princes Highway near Bunyip due to pothole-related tyre damage.
Several regions recorded historic rainfall levels. Rutherglen saw its highest 24-hour rainfall in 114 years, while Hunters Hill broke a 21-year record with over 87 millimetres. Bendigo also experienced its wettest August day in 36 years.
The State Emergency Service (SES) has responded to 158 requests for assistance, primarily involving downed trees, and has conducted several flood rescues. Warnings for flooding, particularly in the Hume region, and damaging winds in alpine areas have been issued.
