Victorian Electoral Commission expands accessible voting for 2026 election

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has welcomed a report from the Parliament of Victoria’s Electoral Matters Committee regarding voting centre accessibility. In preparation for the 2026 state election, Victoria has expanded several accessible voting options.

Key measures include the introduction of low-sensory voting in all 88 districts and the availability of telephone-assisted voting. The VEC is also deploying more than 400 mobile voting services to reach individuals in hospitals, aged-care facilities, prisons, and homeless shelters.

To assist voters with diverse needs, the VEC will provide voting information in 29 languages, along with accessible voting screens, magnifying sheets, and tactile pencils at voting centres. Every election venue will undergo an accessibility audit, ensuring at least one fully accessible centre per district. The state election is scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2026, with early voting periods available in the weeks prior.
