Victorian Gambling Regulator unveils AI-driven Strategy 2029
The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has announced ‘Strategy 2029’, a three-year plan designed to modernize oversight through the increased use of artificial intelligence, data, and predictive analysis. The initiative aims to shift the regulator from reactive monitoring to proactive, real-time detection of gambling-related risks.
VGCCC Chief Executive Suzy Neilan noted that gambling companies are increasingly utilizing advanced technology to attract and retain customers. To keep pace, the commission intends to use data and intelligence to identify problematic behavior earlier. The strategy also addresses challenges posed by new online products, promotions, and diverse payment methods that make tracking activity across multiple channels more difficult.
While the commission views technological advances as opportunities for improved oversight, it also acknowledged emerging risks regarding cybersecurity, privacy, and data handling. The regulator expects to see the benefits of these technological investments beginning in the 2027-28 fiscal year.
