Victorian Government invests $21.6M in Melbourne food manufacturers
The Victorian Government has announced $21.6 million in combined investments to support three food manufacturers in Melbourne’s north: That’s Amore Cheese, Mr. Pitta, and Picnic Foods. The funding, sourced from the $150 million Victorian Investment Fund, aims to expand production, enhance export capabilities, and create nearly 50 local jobs.
That’s Amore Cheese will upgrade its Thomastown facility with additional cold storage, automation technologies, and an on-site research and development laboratory. Mr. Pitta, a family-owned business, plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Campbellfield utilizing advanced manufacturing equipment and energy-efficient technology to enter new export markets. Picnic Foods will expand its Coolaroo facility with new production lines, advanced pastry manufacturing equipment, and an R&D kitchen, which includes the establishment of Sahara Gourmet Bakehouse.
Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing Melissa Horne stated that the support is intended to strengthen local manufacturing, drive innovation, and increase the availability of Victorian-made products globally.
