Victorian Labor pledges road funding for Geelong and Whittlesea

The Victorian Labor Party has announced several road infrastructure funding commitments as part of its election platform. In the Greater Geelong region, the party has pledged $237 million to deliver Stage 1 of the Bellarine Link, which will involve constructing two lanes in each direction between the Surf Coast Highway and Barwon Heads Road, alongside intersection upgrades. Additionally, $57 million is earmarked for upgrading Murradoc Road in Drysdale to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

In the City of Whittlesea, the council has welcomed a $270 million commitment to upgrade 3.6km of Findon Road. The proposed project aims to double the existing lanes and upgrade key intersections to alleviate congestion on the thoroughfare connecting the Hume Freeway and Plenty Road. Local officials noted that Findon Road currently carries 23,000 vehicles daily, a figure projected to reach 35,000 by 2031.
