Victorian leaders rule out minority government deals
As the November state election approaches in Victoria, major political leaders are addressing the potential for a minority government. Premier Ben Carroll has ruled out forming a government through a deal with the Greens, stating he would rather not hold power if such an arrangement were required.
Opposition leader Jess Wilson has also declined to engage in discussions regarding potential support from One Nation, maintaining that her focus remains on forming a majority government through the existing Liberal and National coalition.
Despite these stances, recent opinion polls suggest that the next Victorian government, whether led by Labor or the Liberal-National coalition, may require the support of minor parties to govern effectively. Former Greens leader Bob Brown noted that while avoiding such discussions is a standard campaign tactic, there is a growing need for leaders to have more transparent conversations with voters regarding minority governance.
