Victorian Transport Association outlines freight priorities for state election

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has released its 2026 Victorian State Election Policy Priorities, calling for practical reforms to support the state’s freight and logistics sector. The submission emphasizes the need for targeted investment and policy changes to address a growing population and increasing freight demands.

Key priorities outlined by the VTA include rebuilding Victoria’s road network, increasing the number of rest areas, reforming heavy vehicle licensing, and tackling sham contracting. The association also advocates for improved long-term infrastructure planning, enhanced road and rail connectivity, workforce development, and practical decarbonization initiatives.

VTA Chief Executive Officer Peter Anderson stated that the priorities aim to deliver measurable benefits across the supply chain, focusing on achievable reforms rather than policy for its own sake. He noted that the industry requires smarter regulation and planning decisions that recognize the essential role freight plays in the Victorian economy.
