Victorian woman faces assault charge after identity mix-up

A 38-year-old Victorian woman faced assault charges in Bega Local Court after slapping her husband during a drunken argument while visiting Merimbula. The case was complicated by an identity mix-up, as the woman shares the same name and a similar appearance with another individual facing domestic violence charges in Victoria.

She was held in custody until fingerprint analysis confirmed she was not the other individual. Judge Doug Dick noted her remorse and lack of prior record, electing not to record a conviction and instead placing her on a one-year conditional release order.
