Vid Karlovšek wins Jenka Award for poetry collection Destrukcije

Vid Karlovšek has been awarded the Jenka Award, considered the most important poetry prize in Slovenia, for his debut collection ‘Destrukcije’ (Destructions). The award ceremony took place at the Kranj City Library as part of the traditional Jenkovi dnevi.

The professional jury, which evaluated approximately 300 collections, praised Karlovšek’s work for its highly original and modern sound. The jury noted that the collection’s strength lies in its language, where words are repeated, transformed, and collide with one another to create a poetic world filled with energy, themes of corporeality, and solitude.

In response to the award, Karlovšek expressed surprise at being selected, noting that such prestigious honors are often reserved for established, older generations of writers. He expressed hope that his recognition might open doors for other young and less established authors in the literary community.
