Video game design relies on responsiveness and audio design

The quality of a video game is determined by more than just high-end graphics; essential elements include responsiveness, sound, animation, and interface design. Effective feedback through animations, color changes, and controller vibrations ensures that player inputs feel purposeful and timely.

Auditory feedback is equally critical, with soundtracks establishing mood and sound effects communicating environmental changes or incoming danger. For example, the game Hades utilizes sharp animations and visual effects to provide purposeful combat feedback, while Astro Bot uses tactile controller feedback to make the game world feel more tangible.

In a recent showcase, Pearl Abyss provided a behind-the-scenes look at the audio design for Crimson Desert. The developers aimed to move away from the inspirations of Black Desert to create a unique identity for the new title. Crimson Desert is scheduled to launch on October 15th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version expected next year.
