Video streaming industry prioritizes low latency and AI integration

The video streaming industry is facing significant technical hurdles, with low latency for live streaming now identified as the primary challenge for 36% of professionals, according to Bitmovin’s 10th annual Video Developer Report. This concern has overtaken cost control, which ranks second at 35%.

In response to these industry demands, Zattoo has developed several prototypes to be showcased at IBC 2026. One notable prototype utilizes Media over QUIC (MoQ) to reduce live television delivery latency by over 80%, achieving end-to-end latency of approximately two seconds. This is a significant improvement over the current industry standard.

Artificial intelligence is also becoming deeply integrated into the streaming stack. Bitmovin reports that 98% of respondents use AI or machine learning for video, with applications including audio transcription, translation, and content recommendations. Zattoo is also leveraging AI for new prototypes, such as an automated channel marketplace to reduce sales turnaround times and real-time AI subtitle translation for live and on-demand content.
