Vidigueira decrees mourning following death of former mayor Arlindo Ruivo

Arlindo Maria Ruivo, the former mayor of Vidigueira and a prominent figure in the Alentejo wine sector, has died at the age of 86. The municipality of Vidigueira announced his passing on September 2 and has decreed two days of municipal mourning, during which flags will be flown at half-mast.

Ruivo served as the president of the Vidigueira Municipal Council between 1972 and 1974. Beyond his political career, he was a teacher and a significant leader in the regional viticulture industry. He held various leadership roles, including president of the board for the Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba e Alvito, and served multiple terms as president of the Associação Técnica dos Viticultores do Alentejo between 1995 and 2018.

Additionally, Ruivo was a member of the General Council of the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional Alentejana since 1996, serving as its president from 2014 to 2015. He was also recognized for his contributions to the history and culture of 'vinho de talha' through the Confraria dos Enófilos do Alentejo.
