Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences launches VIVA senior school

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA), in collaboration with the “Valmiera City Pensioner” association, has launched the VIVA academic year for the Vidzeme Senior School. This initiative is part of the “Vidzeme Senior School: A Place That Unites” (VIVA) project, aimed at strengthening the silver economy in the region.

Responding to the challenges of an aging society, the project focuses on lifelong learning to facilitate the active participation of the older generation in regional growth. Through April 2027, seniors will have opportunities to improve digital and health literacy, acquire skills necessary for labor market inclusion, and engage in cultural and creative activities.

While most classes will take place in Valmiera, some lessons will be available in Cēsis, Mazsalaka, and Smiltene through cooperation with local senior associations. ViA is responsible for project management, educational approach, and content development, while the senior association ensures the curriculum meets actual needs and interests.
