Viedma promotes religious tourism centered on Saint Artémides Zatti
The Municipality of Viedma is promoting religious tourism centered on the legacy of Saint Artémides Zatti. To showcase the city's cultural and spiritual heritage, officials will present tourism proposals in Buenos Aires through activities designed to highlight Viedma's potential as a pilgrimage destination.
The proposed religious circuit covers approximately 1.5 kilometers and includes sites such as the Historical Block, the Cathedral, the former San José Hospital, the Catholic Workers' Circle, and the sanctuary housing the relics of Zatti. This route is designed to be accessible, taking about two hours on foot, and can be combined with visits to the riverfront or nearby El Cóndor.
Artémides Zatti, an Italian immigrant who arrived in Argentina in 1897, served as a Salesian nurse and pharmacist for over four decades. He was canonized by Pope Francis in October 2022, becoming the first saint of Patagonia. His life of service to the sick and vulnerable has turned Viedma into an international reference point for the Salesian community and religious travelers.
