Vienības cycling race in Sigulda marked by tragedy and anniversary

The 36th annual Vienības cycling race took place in Sigulda, marking the 140th anniversary of the Latvian Cycling Federation. The event saw thousands of participants, including Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, who completed the 47-kilometer People's Race distance.

In the competitive categories, Arvīds Logins won the 95-kilometer road race, and Laura Klismete secured victory in the women's road race. Kristers Celitāns won the 58-kilometer mountain bike distance, while Mārtiņš Blūms triumphed in the newly introduced 62-kilometer gravel race. In the 47-kilometer People's Race, Ralfs Zaļeskis won the men's category and Lithuanian Elžbieta Selavaite won the women's category.

Despite the celebrations and the honoring of cycling legends such as Romāns Vainšteins and Kaspars Ozers, the event was marked by tragedy following the death of a participant during the race.
