Vienna and Ljubljana strengthen urban partnership
Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig visited Ljubljana to deepen the long-standing city partnership between the two capitals. During discussions with Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, the leaders focused on addressing shared urban challenges, specifically affordable housing, sustainable mobility, and climate-resilient urban development.
The partnership, which has existed since 1999, aims to intensify cooperation in public transport, social policy, and tourism. A key point of discussion was Vienna’s social housing model, which includes approximately 220,000 municipal apartments and 220,000 subsidized units, presented as a potential framework for Ljubljana.
Additionally, the cities are looking to exchange expertise to meet climate goals, with Vienna working toward becoming climate-neutral by 2040.
