Vienna and South Tyrol announce new climate and mobility initiatives
Vienna has released a draft for its updated climate roadmap, titled “The Good Life in Vienna 2040.” The 182-page document aims to address increasing climate risks, such as rising temperatures and heatwaves. Recent data from Geosphere Austria indicates significant warming, with record-breaking heat days and tropical nights recorded in the city's inner district.
In South Tyrol, the regional government has approved a restructuring of subsidies for emission-free vehicles. The new policy, proposed by Councilor Daniel Alfreider, will provide up to 2,000 euros for the purchase of battery-electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles, with potential additional funding based on the applicant's economic status and the scrapping of older, high-emission vehicles. The initiative also includes subsidies for electric motorcycles, cargo bikes, and charging infrastructure.
