Vienna arrests linked to recent knife attacks

In Vienna, police have detained suspects in two separate knife‑related incidents. On 18 July, a 15‑year‑old of Syrian nationality was arrested in the 10th district after a stabbing at Laubeplatz in the Favoriten district left a 19‑year‑old victim seriously injured. The Landeskriminalamt Wien, South branch, led the investigation and placed the suspect in a detention facility while he denies the charges.

A second incident occurred on 30 July in the Neulaa U‑Bahn station, where a 44‑year‑old man and his 15‑year‑old son were detained after a family dispute escalated into a physical fight. Witnesses reported the pair attacking a 40‑year‑old former brother‑in‑law with a stick and a knife, resulting in arm and facial injuries. The suspects were apprehended on foot, a ban on approaching the victim was issued, and the weapon and stick were seized. Both cases are being handled by the Landespolizeidirektion Wien.

These arrests highlight ongoing concerns about knife violence in the city and the police response to such incidents.
