Vienna celebrates urban gardening winners in photo contest
The City of Vienna has concluded its ‘Blühendes Zuhause’ (Blooming Home) photo competition, which saw approximately 700 participants submit entries. Awards were presented in several categories, including ‘Insect Paradise’, ‘Edible Spots’, ‘Wild Beauty’, and ‘Small but Mighty’. The competition also included a creative contest for kindergarten and nursery groups.
City Councilor for Housing Elke Hanel-Torsch emphasized that the initiative aims to recognize the creativity and effort residents invest in their living environments. Katharina Klement, interim director of Wiener Wohnen, noted the importance of green spaces within municipal housing, stating that Wiener Wohnen manages approximately 610 hectares of green space, 68,000 trees, and one million shrubs. Currently, about 70% of the area managed by municipal housing consists of green courtyards and outdoor facilities.
