Vienna City Council to hold special session amid political criticism

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has requested a special session of the Vienna City Council, framing the meeting under the slogan ‘System Ludwig’ to criticize Mayor Michael Ludwig and the SPÖ administration.

The special session aims to address several recent political developments, including the resignation of Walter Ruck, head of the ÖVP Vienna Economic Association, and controversies involving SPÖ District Chairman Ernst Nevrivy regarding comments on municipal housing sales. Additionally, the session will touch upon allegations of bullying involving the former head of the Vienna Market Office.

In parallel, political opposition from the ÖVP has intensified. Markus Figl, the ÖVP state party chairman, criticized Mayor Ludwig during a summer interview, alleging a lack of a clear plan to manage Vienna’s rising debt and economic challenges. Figl argued that the current administration is focusing on new taxes and fees rather than structural reforms and debt reduction.
