Vienna court to try right‑wing football hooligan from ‘Unsterblich Wien’

A member of the extremist football fan group ‘Unsterblich Wien’ will appear before a Viennese court on 13 August for alleged violations of Austria’s ban‑law on extremist organisations. Investigators say the suspect repeatedly wore a leather‑cloak emblazoned with Nazi‑style symbols – an SS‑skull, a Reich‑war flag altered with the club’s initials, and other stylised insignia – at Austria Wien away matches.

Authorities from the Federal Directorate for State Security and Intelligence also seized a large cache of far‑right propaganda, including stickers, a white‑power T‑shirt, beer coasters, and thousands of images on the suspect’s phone showing Nazi symbols such as the swastika, SS skull, “Black Sun” and double‑Sig rune. The prosecution argues the material was collected for the purpose of disseminating extremist ideology. The case follows extensive investigations that began in November 2021 after the group’s public displays at various stadiums.
