Starting September 8, 2026, dog owners in Vienna can register their pets in the Austrian pet database free of charge. The initiative, a collaboration between City Service Vienna and TierQuarTier Vienna, will feature a service bus traveling through various districts until the end of October 2026.
To complete the registration, owners only need to provide a photo ID and the dog’s microchip number; the animal itself does not need to be present. Animal Protection Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky noted that registration is vital for reuniting lost pets with their owners, as a microchip number alone does not provide immediate contact information without being linked to owner data in the database.
