Vienna police arrest two men in attempted sale of stolen €27,000 violin

Police in Vienna arrested a 24‑year‑old cleaning worker and a 23‑year‑old accomplice after they tried to sell a high‑value violin worth about €27,000. The instrument had been left by a 59‑year‑old passenger in the luggage rack of a train at Wien Hauptbahnhof on 26 June. The cleaning employee, a Serbian national, discovered the violin, sought its value at a music shop and recruited his friend to help with the sale, promising a share of the proceeds.

The two men were intercepted at the violin shop where they intended to complete the transaction. Both confessed to the police. The public prosecutor ordered them released on bail pending further investigation on charges of aggravated theft and attempted fencing.
