Vienna public transport prices expected to rise in 2027
Public transport prices in Vienna are expected to rise starting January 1, 2027. Following the abolition of the popular 365-euro annual pass as part of a municipal austerity package, Wiener Linien will transition to an annual price adjustment model based on the consumer price index, similar to the practices of ÖBB and VOR.
Based on a September inflation rate of 3.6 percent reported by Statistik Austria, projections suggest the most common annual pass could increase from 467 euros to 483 euros. Monthly passes may rise from 75 euros to 77.60 euros, while single tickets could increase from 3.20 euros to 3.30 euros. Official figures are expected to be communicated in the coming weeks.
These increases coincide with other rising costs in the city, as fees for water, sewage, and waste management are projected to rise by up to 4.6 percent. Additionally, ÖBB and VOR are planning average fare increases of approximately 3.5 percent in December. The proposed hikes have met with opposition from political groups in the Vienna City Hall.
