Vienna research explores urban green space planning for wild food foraging
A PhD dissertation from Vienna explores the integration of wild food foraging into urban green space planning. The research identifies that urban foraging is gaining social importance as a way to strengthen human-nature relationships and support food sovereignty.
Through expert interviews and quantitative analysis of 327 foragers in Vienna, the study identified eleven key criteria for selecting foraging locations, including biodiversity-friendly maintenance, clear regulations, accessibility, and low contamination levels. The findings emphasize the need for a diverse network of urban green spaces to support foraging as an ecological service for sustainable cities.
