Vienna ATX drops 0.7% as US‑Iran nuclear talks weigh on markets

On Tuesday, the Austrian ATX index closed 0.74% lower at 6,545.85 points, with the ATX Prime down 0.73% to 3,218.32. Losses were driven by profit‑taking in Asian markets and uncertainty over US‑Iran nuclear‑inspection negotiations. US President Donald Trump asserted on social media that Iran had agreed to the highest inspection standards, a claim contradicted by Iran’s UN ambassador.

Economic data showed the euro‑area economy still shrinking but avoiding recession, according to S&P Global. The PMI for industry and services rose to 49.5, still below the 50‑point growth threshold. In Austria, semiconductor maker AT&S fell 6.7% after a prior rise, while Lenzing and Polytec also declined. Banking stocks were mixed; Bawag +0.3%, Raiffeisen –0.4%, Erste –0.7%. Strabag led gainers with +2.5%, followed by Porr (+1.6%) and Vienna Insurance Group (+1.2%).

The following Monday the ATX rebounded, gaining 1.03% to 6,594.82 points, supported again by AT&S, which rose nearly 6% on strong semiconductor demand. Other movers included voestalpine (+2.88%) and Strabag (+2.42%). The market reaction reflected the evolving US‑Iran dialogue and broader European sentiment.
