Vienna teenage girl shot in Favoriten; separate fireworks fire case in Traun

A 15‑year‑old girl was wounded by a Diabolo iron projectile fired from an air‑rifle in a residential building on Gudrunstraße in Vienna's Favoriten district on Saturday evening. Police identified two suspects, aged 15 and 17, who later confessed that the younger boy fired the shot; a search of the apartment also uncovered combat knives, batons and a strangulation wire.

In a separate incident, a mis‑directed fireworks rocket ignited a multi‑apartment block in Traun, Upper Austria, on New Year’s Eve. A 23‑year‑old Hungarian from Linz, captured on a cellphone video, is accused of negligent arson. The case is pending a decision on the appropriate court, with the Linz public prosecutor appealing a district‑court ruling.

Both events are under investigation by Austrian authorities.
