Vienna utility fees to rise by 4.6 percent in 2027
Starting in January 2027, utility fees for water, sewage, and waste in Vienna are projected to increase by 4.6 percent. This adjustment is driven by a legally established fee automatism triggered by inflation levels exceeding specific thresholds since the last adjustment in early 2025.
Specifically, the cost of drinking water is expected to rise by ten cents per cubic meter, moving from 2.27 euros to 2.37 euros per 1,000 liters. While the Vienna City Hall has not officially announced the final tariffs due to pending inflation data, preliminary figures suggest a 4.6 percent rise in the consumer price index by June 2026.
The planned increases have drawn criticism from FPÖ economic spokesperson Udo Guggenbichler, who argued that the automatic nature of these hikes places an undue burden on citizens already struggling with the cost of living. Guggenbichler called for a reform of the fee automatism to provide relief to residents. In contrast, parking fees are expected to remain unchanged at 3.40 euros per hour for the time being.
