Vienna Vikings seek inaugural AFLE title amid league split
The Vienna Vikings are competing for the inaugural American Football League Europe (AFLE) championship. The team is set to face the Wroclaw Panthers in the Gold Bowl in Duisburg, Germany.
Following the insolvency of the European League of Football (ELF), European club football has split into two competing leagues: the AFLE and the European Football Alliance (EFA). While the EFA is managed collectively by its six member clubs, the AFLE utilizes an external investor and management structure to support its eight teams.
Vienna Vikings owner Robin Lumsden has expressed interest in reuniting the leagues, stating, “We have extended the hand. If we sit down at a table, we will find an exciting solution.”
