Vientos del Caribe to invest $350 million in Quintana Roo wind farm

The Spanish company Vientos del Caribe is advancing plans to develop a wind farm in southern Quintana Roo, Mexico, with a projected investment of $350 million. The project is currently awaiting approval of its Environmental Impact Statement (MIA).

The wind farm will be located on lands rented within the Juan Sarabia and Sergio Butrón Casas ejidos. It is designed to feature 52 wind turbines, each with a nominal power of 4 megawatts, resulting in an average installed capacity of 208 megawatts and an estimated operational generation of 200 megawatts. The facility will cover a total area of 1,871.2 hectares.

Once operational, the energy will connect to the electrical grid via the Xul-Há substation. Artemio Santos, coordinator of the Cabinet of Public Policies and Emblematic Projects of Quintana Roo, noted that the project is among the most advanced in federal and energy ministry administrative processes. If all necessary authorizations are obtained, construction is expected to begin in early 2027.
