Viera y Clavijo Complex to host first CaixaForum in the Canary Islands

The Santa Cruz City Council has approved the administrative concession for the Viera y Clavijo Cultural Complex to be used by the CaixaForum Foundation. This agreement establishes the legal and administrative framework for the development of the first CaixaForum in the Canary Islands.

The project involves the rehabilitation and recovery of the historic municipal property to transform it into a cultural, educational, and scientific hub. The initiative combines heritage restoration with the implementation of new public programming.

Fundación la Caixa has committed to an annual contribution of two million euros to support the center's operational costs and content, aiming to provide programming with international reach. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez described the move as a milestone that will help position Santa Cruz as a cultural capital for the region.
