Viet Duc Hospital surgeons save two children after severe traumatic injuries
Medical teams at Viet Duc University Hospital in Hanoi have successfully performed emergency surgeries to save two young children following severe traumatic incidents.
A 6-year-old boy from Hanoi was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after falling approximately 10 meters and being impaled by a fence post through his abdomen and perineum. The patient arrived in hemorrhagic shock with unmeasurable blood pressure. Following a multi-disciplinary “red alert” protocol, surgeons conducted a four-hour operation to remove the foreign object, repair the small intestine and bladder, and manage complex internal injuries. The child has been moved to intensive care for monitoring.
In a separate case, doctors treated a 26-month-old boy who sustained life-threatening facial and neck injuries from a domestic dog attack. The wounds were located near the carotid artery and involved damage to the facial nerve and salivary glands. Medical staff utilized microsurgery to reconstruct the nerve and address extensive soft tissue damage to prevent long-term facial paralysis and functional complications.
