Viet Youth Group promotes language preservation in Canada
The Viet Youth Group, part of the Canada-Vietnam Council for Culture and Education, is working to preserve the Vietnamese language among younger generations in Canada. To mark Vietnamese Language Day on September 8, the group has integrated language use into various activities to ensure it remains a living part of daily life rather than just a subject for formal classrooms.
By creating spaces for exchange and sharing experiences in study and life, the group helps youth born in Canada learn to speak the language while assisting Vietnamese students arriving in Canada to adjust to their new environment. Participants note that maintaining the language serves as a vital connection to family and heritage, while also providing practical benefits as multilingualism is increasingly valued in professional and academic settings.
