Viñetas desde o Atlántico comic festival opens in A Coruña
The 29th edition of the Viñetas desde o Atlántico comic festival is taking place in A Coruña, Spain, from August 10 to August 16, 2026. Under the direction of Manel Cráneo, the festival features over 70 authors, 24 exhibitions, and more than 100 scheduled activities.
This edition focuses on social and political themes, utilizing comics as a tool for social transformation and critical thinking. The programming aims to cross-pollinate different cultural sectors, including collaborations with opera (linking Janacek's 'Jenufa' to comic art) and podcasts. Notable featured works include 'Humanos. A Roya é un río' by Troubs and Baudoin, which addresses migration and African communities crossing the Mediterranean.
International graphic artists such as Bryan Talbot and Mary M. Talbot are expected to attend, alongside Spanish creators like Jacobo Fernández and animator Raúl García. The festival has been structured into specialized sections, including 'Viñetas Minicon' for children, 'Viñetas Pro' for professionals, and 'Viñetas Inclusivas' to ensure space for all social collectives.
