VietinBank and BIDV announce changes to ATM processes and banking fees

VietinBank has announced an update to its ATM and RATM cash withdrawal process nationwide to improve security. Under the new system, the machine will require users to retrieve their card before the cash dispenser opens. This change aims to prevent customers from forgetting their cards in the machine after receiving cash, a common issue that leads to lost cards or theft. The update applies to all cards issued by VietinBank as well as cards from other banks, with a phased rollout expected to be completed by the end of August 2026.

Separately, several Vietnamese banks are implementing new fee structures and policies. BIDV will apply a new service fee schedule for individual customers starting August 20, 2026, which includes fees for converting non-physical cards to physical cards and charges for unsuccessful transactions due to insufficient funds. Additionally, VietinBank will introduce a method to freeze funds in customer accounts to cover unpaid card-related fees starting in October 2026.
