A 36-year-old inspector from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) in Hong Kong has been arrested on suspicion of theft following a dispute over a massive lottery win.

The suspect was part of a 15-person group of colleagues who pooled money to purchase Mark Six tickets for a special 50th-anniversary snowball draw on September 5. The group won a significant prize totaling approximately HK$ 30 million (roughly R$ 20 million).

According to reports, the inspector was responsible for managing the group's account and purchasing the winning tickets. However, after the win, he allegedly refused to distribute the funds equally among the participants. He reportedly demanded a larger share, claiming he deserved more for organizing the purchase, and subsequently went missing from work for several days.

Following a failed attempt to resolve the matter privately, the colleagues contacted the police. The Western District Criminal Investigation Team is handling the case. The suspect has been granted bail and is expected to report to the police in mid-October.
