Vietnam accelerates infrastructure and security for APEC 2027

Vietnam is intensifying preparations for the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, scheduled for November 2027 in the Phu Quoc special zone. The summit is expected to host leaders from 21 APEC economies and approximately 10,000 delegates.

To support the event, An Giang province is executing 21 key infrastructure projects, consisting of 10 public investment projects and 11 public-private partnerships. The total capital for these works exceeds 5.27 billion USD (approximately 137.1 trillion VND). Key projects include the APEC Boulevard, aimed for completion in 2026, and water infrastructure projects such as the Cua Can and Duong Dong 2 reservoirs, which are targeted for completion by May 31, 2027.

Security measures are being implemented well in advance to ensure public order and protect the summit. The provincial police have established specialized security plans and formed Task Force 833 to address land clearance bottlenecks. This task force has reviewed nearly 400 land recovery dossiers to facilitate project progress while managing resident rights. Additionally, authorities are increasing patrols, enhancing fire prevention at construction sites, and tightening controls on foreign workers and migration to maintain a secure environment.
