Vietnam accelerates infrastructure for APEC 2027 summit

Vietnam is accelerating infrastructure development and communication preparations for hosting the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. This marks the country’s third time hosting the event, following 2006 and 2017.

In Phu Quoc, major construction projects are nearing completion to support the APEC Summit Week. The Phu Quoc International Airport expansion, covering 1,050 hectares, is currently finishing its main terminal structure, with phase one expected to be operational by April 2027. A new VIP terminal designed to host up to 300 heads of state is also under construction. Additionally, a 17.59 km Light Rail Transit (LRT) line is being developed to connect the airport to the APEC convention center on the southern island, with commercial operations targeted for late 2027.

On the diplomatic and media front, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is conducting training for communication professionals. The theme for APEC 2027 is “Creating the Era of Resilience, Innovation, and Prosperity.” Officials emphasize that the forum serves as a strategic opportunity to affirm Vietnam’s international standing and promote the nation as a reliable destination for global trade, investment, and tourism.
